Support Throughout
Pregnancy and Birth
Having a doula throughout pregnancy, labor, and birth provides valuable support to birthing people and their partners. Throughout time, people have used the support of doulas to aid and reassure them during birth. The encouragement, knowledge, comfort, and expertise of a trained modern birth doula can provide irreplaceable care for birthing people and their partners throughout their birthing experience.

Evidence on Benefits of Doula Care
I provide birthing doula services as well as placenta encapsulation to Nevada County and Yuba County in Northern California.
For more information on how I can help you as your doula, visit my Services page.
At the most basic level, Doulas provide:

-
emotional and physical support throughout labor and birth
-
work with the birth partner to provide the best care to the birthing person, and help the partner find their role in whatever form they choose to take.
-
evidence-based information so that the birthing person and partner can make their own informed decisions.
-
support to help ensure the birthing person has the most positive experience they can have, according to the birthing person’s standards, not our own opinions.
-
advocacy for their clients, reminding them of their birth plan and helping them find their voice with healthcare providers
Studies show that having a doula present throughout labor and birth can have a profound impact on the overall birthing experience.
-
A doula present can significantly lower the use of interventions, synthetic oxytocin, and pain medications, and even shorten labor.
-
People were less likely to have cesareans, less likely to report negative childbirth experiences, and there was a decrease in incidents of complications.
-
Hospital arrival time can be delayed since doulas can provide pain management techniques and comfort early on at the client's home.
-
People are also more likely to report an overall sense of satisfaction with their birthing experience, showing how beneficial it is for birthing people to feel safe, supported, witnessed, and cared for by a doula.
